Frequently asked questions
Subscription and payments
How do I cancel my subscription?
Deleting the app does not cancel your subscription. Cancel in your store account:
- iPhone or iPad: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Mintwise → Cancel Subscription.
- Android: Google Play Store → profile icon → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Mintwise → Cancel subscription.
You can also get there from Settings in the Mintwise app. You keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for. To avoid being charged when a free trial ends, cancel at least 24 hours before it ends.
How do I get a refund?
Payments go through Apple or Google, so refunds are decided by them. We cannot refund you directly.
- Apple: go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple Account, choose “Request a refund” and select the Mintwise purchase.
- Google Play: go to your Google Play order history, find the Mintwise purchase and choose “Request a refund” or “Report a problem”. If more than 48 hours have passed, email us with your order number (it starts with “GPA.”) and we will look at it.
I reinstalled the app or changed phone. How do I get my subscription back?
Open the app, go to Settings and tap Restore purchases. Make sure you are signed in to the same Apple or Google account that bought the subscription. You do not need to pay again.
Your collection is stored only on your phone, so restoring purchases does not bring back saved coins from an old device.
How do free scans work?
You can scan 3 coins for free, without a card or account. One scan is one coin, photographed on both sides. If a coin is not recognized, or a scan fails because of a network or server problem, it does not use up a free scan.
Results and prices
Why is the price lower than what I see in coin shops?
Mintwise shows catalog estimates from Numista for each condition. A shop’s asking price is usually higher than a catalog estimate, because it includes the dealer’s costs and margin, and many shop listings are prices people hope to get, not prices coins actually sold for. In the other direction, a dealer buying your coin will usually offer less than the catalog estimate.
Condition also matters a lot: the same coin can be worth many times more in uncirculated condition than when worn. Choose the condition that best matches your coin, and treat the price as a guide. For a coin that may be valuable, have it authenticated by a grading service such as PCGS or NGC before selling.
The app got the year or the coin wrong. What can I do?
Small or worn dates are hard to read. Try again with the coin flat, in bright, even light, without glare, and with the phone closer so the coin fills the circle. When the app is not sure about the year, it asks you to confirm it from the list of years that coin was issued. If the result is still wrong, email us with the scan time and we will look into it.
What does the match percentage mean?
It shows how well the result is supported by things we can check, such as whether the catalog has a coin of that country, denomination and year. A lower percentage means you should compare the result carefully with your coin, or retake the photos. It is a guide, not a guarantee.
Can Mintwise grade my coin or find error coins?
No. Mintwise identifies the coin type and issue and shows catalog prices. It does not grade coins, detect minting errors or varieties, or buy and sell coins.
Privacy
Do you keep my coin photos?
No. Photos are sent to our server only to identify the coin and are not kept. Your collection, including your photos, stays on your phone. Read the Privacy Policy for details.
How do I delete my data?
Delete coins in the app, or uninstall the app to remove everything stored on your phone. To delete the data on our server linked to your install ID (scan count and service logs), email us and include your install ID, which you can find in the app under Settings.
